Silver yarn spool holder Late 18th century, silver with Nuremberg hallmark, year mark B, slightly worn, illegible master's mark ...TR? tremolier mark, yarn ball holder standing on four stylised feet, hinged ribbed body with stylised acanthus leaves and shells, small strap handle, one foot old soldered, otherwise in very good condition for its age with normal signs of wear, h 8.5 cm, g approx. 125 g.

Table-top Victorian table-top box-costume case. England, 19th century. Root wood with metal fillet. Brass plate with initials on the top. Interior with thread spools and other carved bone and mother-of-pearl implements. Lined in blue velvet. Crack in the top of the box. Measurements: 13 x 31 x 21 cm. This Victorian sewing box is characterized by the beautiful wood grain interrupted by a fine metal fillet. With a prismatic structure and a hinged top lid, it has a lock and a metal plate on the top. The interior of the box is compartmentalized, lined with sky blue velvet and decorated with Grecian motifs. The sewing instruments have been worked in bone and mother-of-pearl.

SIZE of the sheet 18.3 x 25 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and slight browning of paper. Centerfold, minor creasing, and few stains. Gently mounted on a passepartout. Provenance: From the private collection of Thomas Padua, Mühldorf, Germany. Thomas Padua was an artist and collector of Japanese woodblock prints who exhibited his surimono collection at the Olaf Gulbransson Museum, in ‘Glückwünsche aus Kyoto: Japanische Shijo-Surimono aus der Sammlung Thomas Padua,’ 3 November 2013 to 26 January 2014. Surimono, literally "printed matter", are high-quality, limited-edition, privately commissioned, woodblock-printed "greeting cards," mainly produced between the 1790s and the 1830s, and usually ordered for New Year's greetings. Surimono usually paired poetic texts with images, and both were typically intended to carry the cachet of "insider knowledge" for a cultured and well-educated audience.
