EUROPE, XVIIIème siècle. Two sea turtle shell snuffboxes (Chelonioidea spp) (pre-Convention) : - one in silver (min. 800), decorated with figures among foliage, or with houses. The central motif on the lid is a late addition. Mid 18th century. Gross weight : 33 g. - 27 x 78 x 50 cm. Wear and tear, some missing decoration and lid previously restored. - An oval inlaid with gold interlacing and rosette friezes. Gilded silver (950) hinge. Poinçon de Décharge [dog's head] de PARIS, Nov. 1774-July 1780. Gross weight: 37 g. - 27 x 78 x 50 cm. Wear, scratches, a few chips, notably to the foliage, and minor damage to the decorations. Hawksbill specimens of pre-Convention marine turtle Chelonioidea spp (I/A), prior to June 1, 1947, and therefore in compliance with EC regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc. In the case of export, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to check with the customs authorities of the country concerned, particularly the United States, prior to any purchase. If the animal is to be exported from the European Union, a CITES re-export permit will be required, at the expense of the future buyer.
