Fine copy of the first edition, complete with both two volumes, of the first detailed pocket atlas of France. This interesting collection of maps, plans and views of French cities is of particular interest for the study of urban development at the beginning of the 17th century and for the study of French fortifications before Vauban's great innovative intervention at the end of the century. 2 vols, 4to, (180 x 240mm). Engraved title pages, 19 engraved half-titles to each part, 15 engraved indices, 414 views, plans and maps intaglio (small wormhole to upper margin of final view not touching engraving, sporadic light foxing, otherwise an excellent set). Contemporary full vellum binding, speckled edges. (2)
