Scarce map of the environs of Naples with splendid contemporary coloring, the first modern map of the region, so detailed that even individual estates are depicted. At the base of the map the Gulf of Naples is occupied by an allegorical cartouche while the map itself is framed by an engraved border. HISTORY - INNOCENTIUS XII Pope (Antonio Pignatelli (Spinazzola 1615 – Roma 1700) - Apostolic brief, signed his Secretary Apostolic brief, signed by his Secretary “ai Brevi” Giovanni Francesco Albani (Urbino, 1649 - Rome. 1721) later Pope Clement XI, dated Rome January 28, 1692, addressed to Carlo Maria Gabrielli, regarding some measures taken in favor of the latter. "...in unoquoque beneficii (...) dummodo illius pacifice possideas illiusque fructus reditus et proventus ad congruam...". Carlo Maria Gabrielli (1667-1745), a priest of the Oratory of Bologna, was considered one of the most educated men of his century in Bologna and left a large number of published and unpublished works. Rome, De Romanis, 1818-1820. 4 vol. in-8, XXXVI-331, 358, 416 and 59-52-140 pp. with a few illustrations in the text, and 45 engraved plates (including a portrait-frontispiece under serpente, 15 views or plates, 30 maps and plans), index. Half blond calf, ornate smooth spines, plum title-pages, blue speckled edges (slightly later binding). Bumps to several headpieces, brown spots. A good copy. Last edition of this work, considered for two centuries to be the best guide to the antiquities of Rome (Brunet, IV, 12).

Top of f. 231-232 torn, but not missing, otherwise a fine copy. This anthology of military speeches, mostly borrowed from classical antiquity, has undergone numerous editions since its first publication in 1557.
