Austria - EYRIÈS (Jean-Baptiste). L'Autriche, ou costumes, mœurs et usages des Autrichiens. Paris, Gide fils, [1821]. Small in-4 (26.9 x 17.3 cm), 4 ff. n. ch., 24 ff. (explanations) and 24 plates, glazed havana half calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and roulettes, red title page, untrimmed, scattered freckles (modern imitation binding). Beautiful suite of 24 plates of picturesque Austrian costumes, engraved in aquatint and watercolored. Each is accompanied by an explanatory leaflet. They depict villagers from Upper Austria, women from Croatia, a peasant from the county of Marmorosch, Polish Jews, a young woman from Egra in wedding dress, a Greek priest from Cattaro, and more. Several of these plates are reproduced with noticeable differences in detail and coloring in L'Autriche, ou mœurs, usages et costumes des habitans de cet Empire, published by Neveu in 1821. A very good copy. Bookplate in morocco (Colas, 1014).

Paris, Gide fils, [ca. 1815-1821]. 3 works bound in 1 vol. in-4 of 20 ff. n. ch. ; 38 ff. n. ch. ; 28 ff. n. ch., marbled havana half calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilt friezes and cold fleurons, gilt title (Montecot). Reunion of 3 beautiful suites of watercolor-engraved costumes, comprising 78 engravings in the first edition: 18 French costumes, 36 Spanish costumes and 24 English costumes, drawn by Chasselat and engraved by Mme Couët. Each plate in this picturesque gallery is accompanied by an explanatory leaflet by Jean-Baptiste Eyriès. The first two works do not include the 2 sheets of notes on France and Spain mentioned by Colas. Marocco bookplate on upper flyleaf. Spine faded and a few freckles, otherwise a fine untrimmed copy in a signed binding by Montecot (Colas, nos. 1011, 1012 and 1013).
