BOURCARD, Francesco de (1821-1886). Usi e Costumi di Napoli e Contorni. Naples: Gaetano Nobile, 1853-1858. First edition of this famous book on the inhabitants of Naples, masterfully illustrated with 100 colored plates depicting the trades and roles of the Neapolitan working classes. 2 volumes, 4to, (258 x 175mm). 100 copper-engraved, colored plates protected by tissue guards (sporadic spotting to text, some light foxing). Bound in the publisher's brown morocco gilt title, gilt edges, publisher's wrappers bound in. Provenance: Princess Margaret of Scylla, gift dated 1879 to endpapers. (2)

Each is accompanied by an explanatory text sheet depicting Austrian men's and women's costumes, as well as those of countries then part of the Austrian Empire: Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary. A good copy. False title detached.

Attributed to Félix BUHOT Address by Félix Buhot, etching, 23 x 12 cm, margins 28 x 19.5 cm (Bourcard & Goodfriend not described?), fine proof printed in sanguine on yellow paper with gold semis, soiling in the left margin. We enclose 3 other proofs of the same plate, same margins, one proof printed in bistre, one proof printed in sanguine and one proof printed in color à la poupée, slight soiling in the margins. This plate, inscribed "?Monsieur Buhot 71 boulevard de Clichy Paris?", does not appear to be described by Bourcard & Goodfriend. It is, however, quite similar to the Sichel and Labric address cards (B. & G. 82 & 83). Set of 4 plates.
