A bound copy of Nolli's famous map of Rome. The work was commissioned by Pope Benedict XIV as a census of Rome and to help create the demarcations of the fourteen traditional districts of Rome. Folio, (515 x 400mm). Title, note to reader, 12 double-page topographical maps (5-28), a further 8 double-page index leaves (1-4; 29-32) and 2 double-page general maps of modern and ancient Rome by Piranesi and by Bufalini (33-36), the last one dated 1751, uncut except for the map by Piranesi (33-34) and the leaf (7-8) from another copy, the 7-8 in later printing on non-watermarked paper probably from the Vatican chalcography (some foxing). Early 20th-century binding with vellum spine, plates mounted on boards. (1)
