[ROME] CHIESA, Andrea; GAMBARINI, Bernardo (18th century). Pianta del corso del Tevere e sue adjacencies from the outlet of the Nera to the sea. [Rome: Calcografia Camerale], 1744. The whole made the year 1744 by command of the happily reigning N.S. Pope Benedict XIV. [Rome: Calcografia Camerale], 1744. After the disastrous flooding of the Tiber in 1742, Pope Benedict XIV commissioned the Bolognese engineers Andrea Chiesa and Bernardo Gambarini to map and study the course of the river, understand the reasons for the floods and propose remedies. The result was the creation of a map of the Tiber, which was engraved by Carlo Nolli, and two reports with proposals to reduce the damage of floods that were published under the title 'Delle cagioni, e de' rimedj delle inondazioni del Tevere' by De Rossi in 1746. The map was reproduced with the same proportions and attached to the work. 6 engraved plates on loose sheets, (795 x 560mm, the smaller sheet 390 x 540mm). Uncut copy, lihhtly folded at center. (6)
