Sumptuously illustrated edition of Tasso's work, with the addition of ''Annotazioni sopra la Gierusalem liberata'' by Scipione Gentili (1563-1616) at the end of the volumes. The engraver, Giacomo Leonardis (1723-1797), used drawings by Bernardo Castello (1557-1629) for the plates at the opening of each canto and drawings by Pietro Antonio Novelli (1729-1804) for the engraved vignettes, frontispiece, and portrait of the author. 2 vols, folio, (290 x 210 mm). Engraved frontispiece, portrait of the author outside the text, 20 engraved plates at the opening of the cantos, half-titles, engraved vignettes to title, engraved illustrations in the text, headpieces, initials (light dampstaining to the second volume, some spotting). Contemporary binding with marbled calf spine, spine gilt, gilt title-piece to spine (some light wear). (2)
