First edition of Simplicio's commentaries on Aristotle, a copy in a beautiful contemporary binding, with numerous interesting contemporary marginal annotations in red and black, in Latin and Greek, in a single hand. Folio, (310 x 210mm). Printer's device, numerous marginal annotations in Latin in black ink, and in Greek in red ink (light dampstain at head of inner margin). Fine contemporary calf binding with a four-lobed medallion with the name SINPLICIUS (sic) in gold and fortune on the verso impressed in gold, dark edges (spine rebacked, lacking clasps). Provenance:'Emmanuelis et amicorum' (contemporary inscription to colophon); ex libris: Walter Ashbourne, Florence (stamp on title page and at end). (1)
