Scarce first edition (only one record at auction on RBH) of one of the classics of 18th-century French cookery directed at the expanding middle classes and which would be translated into Italian in 1766 under the title ''Il cuoco piemontese perfezionato a Parigi''. 8vo, (165 x 95mm). Author's signature to f. A1, engraved head-pieces, complete with final approbation and errata. Contemporary full calf binding, title gilt to spine, spine gilt (some chipping). Provenance: 'Chanoin Nasi' contemporary ownership inscription on title page. (1)

Paris, Roret, 1838. Small in-12, 516 pp. half-brown calf, nicely decorated smooth spine (period binding). Spine slightly faded, covers rubbed. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 7 folding plates. Some brown spots. According to Quérard and Vicaire, Cardelli is the pseudonym of H. DUVAL, former secretary to the Count of Las Cases (Vicaire 142 cites the first edition of 1822 and subsequent reprints, without mentioning this one).
