[DANTE] after LUCA SIGNORELLI (1441-1523). Dante, Virgil and the Prideful. [c.18th-19th century]. Glass tondo reproducing one of the frescoes painted in 1503 by Luca Signorelli for the Chapel of San Brizio in Orvieto Cathedral. It depicts an episode from Canto X of Purgatory in which Dante and Virgil encounter the prideful forced to walk carrying boulders on their backs before a background of historiated scenes sculpted into the side of the mountain, exalting the virtue of humility and showing Mary, David, and Trajan as examples. Painted glass, (diameter 230 mm). Good condition. (1)
