One of 900 numbered copies. - Between January 1410 and the end of 1412 at the latest in Paris, the manuscript about the adventures of the knight Jean de Mandeville was one of the most popular travelogues of the Middle Ages. The most famous and talented illuminators, such as the Mazarine, Cité des Dames and Egerton masters, worked together. The result was a travelogue that is literally magnificent. The supposed author names himself in the text: Jean de Mandeville, an English knight who set out in 1322 and only returned to his homeland in 1356, after traveling through almost every country in the world for thirty years. The depictions range from venerable sites in the Holy Land to exotic scenes in the Far East. With consummate artistry, 74 radiant miniatures show motifs from these adventures. - Very good condition, near mint copy.
