A LARGE KO-KUTANI PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON’ BOWL A LARGE KO-KUTANI PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON’ BOWL Japan, 20th century The deep bowl with lobed rim, finely decorated in tones of green, aubergine, red, yellow and black, the well depicting a sinuous dragon amid flames below a broad nyoi shaped border and café au lait rim, the exterior decorated with scrolling tendrils issuing lotus blossoms. The base with a Kutani mark in a square reserve. WEIGHT 3,183 g DIAMETER 35.9 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear, flaking and touch-ups to the enamels, and firing flaws including bubbling of the enamels.

A LARGE PAIR OF KUTANI PORCELAIN RING-HANDLED VASES A LARGE PAIR OF KUTANI PORCELAIN RING-HANDLED VASES Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) The vases of ovoid form, tapering towards the foot, and flanked by handles in the form of gnarly stems issuing peony blossoms and suspending mock rings. The exteriors finely painted in gilt and bright enamels, each with two lobed cartouches, one enclosing fighting Samurai, the other with cockerels amid peonies and magnolias, with a lappet band around the foot, and the neck decorated with paulownia and scrolling vines. The recessed bases inscribed NIHON KUTANI KISUIDOU. HEIGHT c. 50 cm (each) WEIGHT 8,168 g and 8,518 g Condition: Overall good condition with minor wear, minimal firring flaws, and some losses and repairs to the peony handles, the upper rim smoothened.
