Brown basane, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Title piece renewed, headpieces, nerves and corners restored. Numerous rubs and scuffs. First edition of one of the most important works on the history of Franche-Comté. Dedicated to Philip II of Spain, it is one of the founding books of French Hispanism, and has become rare because it was publicly burned by order of the magistrates of Besançon, who were unhappy with the title of capital of Franche-Comté that the author wanted to give to the town of Dole. The title, printed in red and black, features the engraved arms of Burgundy. Pp. 726-788 contain a list of the Knights of the Golden Fleece with a description of their coats of arms; this is accompanied by 252 empty medallions, intended to receive engraved coats of arms for gluing or illumination. Extensive light spotting, small worm gallery in margin of several pages, several paper restorations.

DESVRES, LES ISLETTES, FRANCHE-COMTE Set of four earthenware pieces including a Desvres plate with polychrome bird design (chips and hair), an oblong bowl with manganese rose design (Franche-Comté, second half of the 18th century, Length: 24.5 cm), a Les Islettes plate with a chinois à l'ombrelle design with three cherries around the rim, early 19th century (hair) and a copy of a chinois plate in the Les Islettes style. A small earthenware soup tureen from Les Islettes decorated with low-fire flowers, first third of the 19th century (cracks).
