Artist information: actually Fredo Robert Bley, German painter and graphic artist. Painter and graphic artist (1929 Mylau in Vogtland to 2010 Reichenbach), 1943-46 together with Wolfgang Mattheuer trained as a lithographer with Carl Werner in Reichenbach in order to avoid compulsory service in the Wismut uranium mines, 1946-48 worked as a farm and forestry labourer in Thuringia, 1948-56 trained and worked as a decorative and lettering painter, inspired by the painter Walter Löhner, largely self-taught, Member of the Association of Visual Artists (VBK) of the GDR since 1952, worked in parallel as a brickmaker and construction worker from 1957-64 due to material constraints, freelance from 1966, worked in parallel for a time under a contract with VEB Baumechanik Lengenfeld and until 1990 as a circle leader for painting at "NEMA" Netzschkau, organised numerous exhibitions, including in 2002 in the new Federal Chancellery in Berlin, worked in Mylau, from 1960 in his own home in Buchwald, source: AKL, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", Frank Weiß "Malerei im Vogtland" and Wikipedia.

Each carved seated on a red-lacquered pedestal in dhyanasana, one hand in bhumisparsha mudra and the other resting in the lap. The figures wear close-fitting sanghati, and their faces are serene, with a tall siraspata atop their heads. The pedestal of one figure is inscribed with a four-line inscription in Thai. Provenance: Austrian private collection. Condition: Extensive wear, signs of weathering and erosion, age cracks, and some losses. Weight: 1,089 g Dimensions: Height 28.6 cm

The kneeling figure resting his right arm on his thigh as he points with the other, looking off in the distance. Wearing only a loin cloth, the disciple has a serene face, with an aquiline nose, full lips forming a calm smile, and glass inlaid eyes. Provenance: Private collection in Belgium. Condition: Presenting well, with expected wear, typical age cracks, small nicks, remnants of pigment, and the left arm partly broken. Weight: 2,198 g Dimensions: Height 36.4 cm
