OPERA - PUCCINI Giacomo (1858 - 1924) - Original photograph took by the composer Original photograph depicting Maestro Giacomo Puccini intent on observing, together with his son Antonio, some players on the deck of the transatlantic liner 'Savoia'. during their journey to Argentina in 1905. The Maestro, in coat, hat and scarf, very elegant as usual, and Antonio curiously observe some travellers intent on playing a sort of "curling". Puccini embarked with his family on the liner 'Savoia' on 1 June 1905 for Buenos Aires, where he arrived on the 23rd of the same month. Here he was the object of the greatest attention from the numerous Italian emigrants, and attended the staging of several of his operas. His return, after a very short stay in Montevideo, took place on 17 August on the liner 'Umbria'. Applied on decorated rigid cardboard in horizontal format (20.8x25.6 cm). Photograph by Lapucci di Lucca, Via Borghi, who probably printed the photograph in Italy. Nice shot, very sharp and unpublished. This photograph has been shot by Puccini himself with his brand new Panorama Kodak Camera Model B just released in 1899. - This item is under temporary import. Cardboard in format (29.5 x 21.3 cm), on which is applied a photographic portrait of the Maestro, cut out and coloured, On the photo a beautiful dedication by Puccini. "To Luciano Ramo, friendly remembrance of Giacomo Puccini, Viareggio 1922", An unusual composition, in which a strange portrait, certainly photographic, but it is not clear whether from life or from an effigy of the Maestro, has been cut out and pasted on. Very nice, extensive, signature. Luciano Ramo (1886-1959) was a publicist and illustrator who was quite well-known at the time. He edited the covers of various magazines, collaborated on numerous newspapers and was also actively involved in the organization and staging of opera, operetta and revue performances. In 1956, he published a 'Storia del varietà' (History of Variety) for Garzanti, which was a good success. - This item is under temporary import. OPERA - PUCCINI Giacomo (1858 - 1924) - Printed copy of two acts drama with handwritten notes Printed copy of the two acts drama by Augusto Novelli 'Dopo' (Firenze Elzeviriana, 1905, 3rd ed.), with salacious handwritten notation by the musician Giacomo Puccini. With strong irony, Puccini notes below the title 'Dopo' (After) the clarification 'of this you cannot read any more! On the verso of the frontispiece, other phrases, simple notes or pro-memoria, always compiled by Puccini's hand: there appear a few figures and three lines 'Sempre Giorgino!/Poi c'è Pippo/sentirai l'orso', with the date, again autograph, '1 May 1909'. Puccini was a discreet reader, always on the lookout for subjects that might be useful to him for his own work: evidently Augusto Novelli's drama must have been really indigestible to him! - This item is under temporary import.
