Stocking in cream silk knit embroidered with palmettes and animals in green, yellow and white threads (wear and stains). First Empire or Cent-Jours period. H. 62 cm Provenance According to family legend, this stocking was found in a bed occupied for a night in a villa in the south of France by Emperor Napoleon I after his escape from Elba (1815). Related work To be compared with a pair of Emperor Napoleon stockings donated by Madame Mère, former collection of the Princely Palace of Monaco, Osenat sale, November 16, 2014, lot 79 (sold for €15,000).
