[38] pp. including 36 pp. of black garden prints. Hishikawa Moronobu (菱川師宣) (1618-1694) is considered the first representative of the ukiyo-e school. By adapting traditional painting techniques to woodblock printing and publishing prints on loose paper rather than entire books, he helped bring Japanese prints to the lower classes. Handwritten record from the BARBOUTAU Collection.
