Lieutenant de vaisseau DORRE. French school of the 19th century. "The Bombardment of Sebastopol". Life-size ink drawing depicting the roadstead of Sebastopol and the names of the various French ships involved. With pen notation "1854 October 18. Bombardment of Sebastopol by the Anglo-French fleet. Sketch executed aboard the Valmy by Lt de vaisseau L.M. Doré aide-de-camp to Admiral Lugel (Lugeol) and attached to a letter to his mother. " 24 x 44 cm. Under glass. Four LAS by DORRE de KERYON are enclosed. Historical background: Dorré (spelled with two r's) is well referenced as Jean Lugeol's aide-de-camp aboard the Valmy (2nd squadron in the Black Sea). He could be Charles Marie DORRE (1822-1889), Officer of the Legion of Honor, Lieutenant in 1850.
