Description

Paris, Hôtel de Thou, 1780-1786. 23 volumes in 8°, bound in full marbled basane, speckled edges. 82 hors texte engravings and a folding table (South Sea languages). The maps are missing, probably collected in a 4° atlas which we do not have. The last volume ends with Cook's third voyage. The set is generally considered complete with the volumes of supplements (T.24 to 32), and even with the continuation (T.33 to 44), but de la Harpe only really worked on the first 21 volumes. Numerous damage to bindings: headbands cocked, spotting on boards, corners dulled.
