LOUIS XVI / Placard printed (41.5 x 52 cm, traces of rodents at bottom) by J.B. Henry in Valenciennes, "Imprimeur Roi". Henry in Valenciennes, "Imprimeur du Roi", with royal vignette and decorative frame, announcing a "Funeral Ceremony" for January 21, 1825: "January 21 is for all of France a day of atonement and mourning" - "Since the Restoration, we have deposited our tears in the bosom of Religion and it is by acts of charity that we have signaled our sorrow" - The Mayor of Valenciennes Desfontaines de Preux decrees: the Feast of January 21st will be announced the day before by the funereal ringing of the belfry bells, the White Flag trimmed with a crepe will be displayed on the façade of the Town Hall (the inhabitants are invited to follow this example), all public entertainment will be forbidden on the evening of the 20th and the day of the 21st, the reading of Louis XVI's Testament will take place in the Church of Saint-Géry, followed by a petition in favor of the poor, and the belfry bells will ring at a quarter to eleven to announce the departure of the various Authorities.
