In-12 garnet morocco, ribbed spine richly decorated with fleur-de-lys caissons, title page in havana morocco, double gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt fleurs-de-lis in the spandrels, gilt royal coat of arms in the center, gilt edges, handsome dominot-printed endpapers with polychrome decoration on a gilt background (period binding). A few small brown spots or rare soiling. First edition of this collection of letters addressed to Mlle Aubert du Petit Thouars de Rassay, who died in 1768 at the age of 96 (there are several letters from this lady in the volume). A very fine copy. Wet monogrammed stamp on title. Ex-libris Maurice Heuzey (with handwritten ex-dono label "offert par le tribunal de commerce de Rouen à son Président Mr Maurice Heuzey à la fin de sa judicature, décembre 1945"). (Barbier I, 157.)
