MARTINIQUE - Daniel THALY (1879-1950, Martinican poet) / Original photograph mounted on cardboard (12 x 18 cm overall), dedicated and signed in his own hand in 1927 with a quatrain to Auguste-Pierre Garnier and Maurice Allem, founders of the Revue "Muse Française" (the photo has been framed and exposed, hence the very pale ink on part of the quatrain).

Charles Camoin partage son temps entre son atelier de Montmartre et le sud de France. En 1946, il loue un atelier donnant sur le port de Saint Tropez. Les vues du golfe de Saint Tropez, de ses environs et de la région deviennent les motifs de prédilection de l'artiste. Notre tableau, comme quelques autres vues du port de Cannes de cette période, a été, très probablement, peint par Camoin depuis la fenêtre de l'Hôtel Méditerranée à Cannes
