FLAMAND ART - Alfred STEVENS (1823-1906, Belgian painter, pupil of Ingres, friend of Manet and Degas) / "L'Art flamand", Arthur Boitte éditeur à Bruxelles, offprint (volume IV of 1898) of the article on Joseph STEVENS (1816-1892, animal painter, brother of Alfred), 4 p in-folio illustrated and 2 plates hors textes, in illustrated cover, Alfred Stevens signed autograph dedication on first page: "Mon cher gendre Henri Vivier, voici une biographie sur mon bon et cher Joseph, mon frère aîné, et je vous l'offre du meilleur de mon cœur mon cher fils" (nb: the funny thing is that this famous son-in-law, Doctor Henri Vivier, had been preferred by Arthur Stevens, to the composer Claude Debussy who had proposed marriage to his daughter Catherine, though very much in love; Doctor Vivier was to die young of truberculosis).
