Edward Bulwer-Lytton Autograph Letter Signed English politician, poet, playwright, and prolific novelist (1803-1873) remembered for coining such phrases as 'pursuit of the almighty dollar,' 'the pen is mightier than the sword,' and 'it was a dark and stormy night.' ALS signed “Lytton,” one page, 4.5 x 7, no date. Handwritten letter to the wife of Gen. William Farrar 'Baldy' Smith, in part: "Come & dine with me Sunday if not better engaged." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original sales folder from early 20th century antiquarian bookseller Ernest Dressel North.

Paris, Pierre Des-Hayes, 1627(?). 95 pp. Tan calf, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt title, double framing of triple gilt fillet with fleurons in spandrels, gilt edges (period binding). Small worm hole in lower margin. A fine copy of this rare collection of plays by the poet and playwright Isaac Du Ryer (1568-1634). In 1593, he entered the service of the slightly older Grand Écuyer Roger de Bellegarde as his secretary. The Grand Écuyer loved poetry, and Isaac was happy to satisfy this taste in him, but in September 1600, Roger de Bellegarde abruptly dismissed him. Du Ryer, who up to that point had led a life of fine dining and debauchery, was at a loss as to where to turn. In 1603, he married, and two years later had a son, Pierre Du Ryer, who would inherit his father's poetic vein. Between 1604 and 1606, he joined the Aydes department, and was assigned to the Paris gates department before becoming a clerk at the Port Saint-Paul office on the Seine. In 1608, he became secretary to the King's Chamber.

Contains 19 color lithographs by Rafael Alberti. Copy 396/1500. Edited by: Filigrana sociedad anonima de ediciones limitadas. Hand signed by Rafael Alberti and numbered. Measurements: 41 x 33 x 4 cm. Lorca has gone down in history as one of the great poets of the 20th century, but his creative activity included theater, prose, music, painting and drawing. Ascribed to the Generation of '27, he was the most influential and popular poet of 20th century Spanish literature. As a playwright, he is considered one of the greatest Spanish playwrights of the 20th century, along with Valle-Inclán and Buero Vallejo. He was shot to death by Franco's authorities one month after the coup d'état that marked the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.
