Revue. Revue française. Paris, Revue française office, 1837-1839. 12 volumes in 6 vol. in-8, half green glazed basane, smooth spines decorated with romantic irons (period binding). Spines uniformly sunned, else a good copy. A complete collection of this very rare political journal of the July Monarchy, whose name and purpose echo those of its namesake of the Restoration: indeed, the first and best-known Revue française, published from January 1828 to July 1830, had Guizot as its director and Ampère, Barante, Broglie, Duvergier de Haurane, Rémusat, Sainte-Aulaire and Saint-Marc Girardin as contributors. Little-known outside political and philosophical circles, it provided enlightened contributions on all subjects related to philosophy, history and politics, of remarkable quality and state-of-the-art information, as well as, at the end of each issue, an important critical bibliography of recently published French and foreign works. This attempt at resurrection went even more unnoticed by the general public than the first series, and failed due to financial difficulties. (Hatin, p. 405 (who confuses the two publications).
