VERY NICE PAINTING "JEUNE FEMME NUE ALLONGÉE" by Georges D'ESPAGNAT (1870-1950) Framed oil on canvas Monogrammed lower left Circa 1931 89 x 116.5 cm French painter and engraver Georges d'Espagnat enrolled at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux-Arts, before training as a copyist at the Louvre. In 1892, he took part in the Salon des Indépendants. An avid traveler, he visited Morocco in 1898, then Europe from 1905 to 1910. From 1904, he exhibited frequently with Durand-Ruel, Bernheim and Druet. D'Espagnat produced more than a thousand canvases, using the bold colors of the Fauves and underlining them with strong rings, in a style close to that of Renoir, whom he frequented. His intimate paintings evoke Bonnard and Vuillard in portraits of writers and artists (Paul Valéry, 1910; André Mare, 1931), outdoor scenes, multi-figure compositions and still lifes.
