[Manuscript] Letter from Cardinal Jacques Davy du Perron to Henri IV, April 5, 1607. Manuscript of 8p in-4, in Italian. Amazing period translation of the letter sent by Cardinal du Perron to Henri IV, now preserved at the BnF (BnF ms. fr. 18002 f° 92-99 v°). This letter is of key importance in the history of Henri IV's negotiations with the Papacy. In it, the Cardinal announces to the King that he had succeeded in rallying Paul V to the Cardinal de Joyeuse's views, and in getting him to abandon the Jesuit cause to allow his reconciliation with the Serenissima. Unfortunately, we do not know why this Italian translation was produced, or to whom it belonged. A work of verse.

The manuscript reveals Gothic lettering that is characterised by its ornamental quality and careful proportions. Accentuated by illuminations in red and blue, it bears witness to a high level of craftsmanship. The condition of the parchment, obviously aged and stained in the margins, emphasises its historical significance and preserves the aesthetics of its era. This copy was probably made in the later 16th century.
