Giulia Napoleone (née en 1936) Abstract composition 1982 Watercolor on paper signed and dated lower center 56 x 76 cm Condition report: Framed Giulia Napoleone's work lies midway between the work of Agnès Martin and Geneviève Asse. Born in Pescara, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome from 1957, where she forged ties with Giorgio Morandi, who advised her to concentrate on creating works on paper, a recommendation she followed! She explored monochrome from the late 50s onwards, and blue took on particular importance in her work from the 1970s onwards. It takes a moment to look at her watercolors for their abstract appearance to reveal the artist's inner landscapes, which she called "landscapes of dots". In 2018, Rome's National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art is devoting a major retrospective to her: Giulia Napoleone. Realtà in equilibrio.
