In 1983, for the first time, a living couturier was the subject of a retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. For this exhibition, curated by Diana Vreeland and entitled "Yves Saint Laurent - 25 Years of Design", the couturier created Les quatre Saisons, a series of collages depicting the four allegories of time, motifs repeated in this suite of squares.
