Ɏ A FINE IVORY NETSUKE OF GO PLAYERS SEATED INSIDE A PEACH Ɏ A FINE IVORY NETSUKE OF GO PLAYERS SEATED INSIDE A PEACH Unsigned Japan, first half of the 19 th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved with two elders seated cross legged inside a large peach borne on a leafy stem, a Chinese low table between them as they play Go. Both men have contemplative expressions, focusing on the game, their hands held in front of them, and a small vessel next to each figure. The skin of the peach is finely stippled, and its stem has three leaves partially devoured by insects. Natural himotoshi formed by the stem. LENGTH 3.6 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear, the head of one of the figures has been restored. Provenance: Mme (Florine) Langweil, Paris. Estate of Albert Brockhaus (1855-1921), acquired from the above on 26 May 1903. Lempertz Cologne, 27 June 2020, lot 492. German private collection, acquired from the above.
