Lion couple on rocks Lion and lioness lurking on a rocky outcrop, in front of a barren desert or steppe landscape reminiscent of Namibia, it is quite possible that the unknown artist, like other colonial painters of the late German Empire, e.g. Wilhelm Kuhnert, captured here a hunting impression of the then German colony in Southwest Africa, hunting painting in muted colours, oil on canvas, early 20th century, illegible annotations on the stretcher on the reverse, canvas tears and colour defects, folded dimensions approx. 80 x 93.5 cm.
