Meissen Pair of "Snake Handle Vases" Designed by Ernst August Leuteritz in 1861, underglaze blue sword marks Knauf period 1860-1924, 1st choice and Pfeiffer period 1924-1934, 2nd choice, incised, embossed and brush marked. Choice, incised, embossed and brush-marked, mounted in two parts, footed amphora form with two coiling pairs of snakes as handles, richly decorated with gilt-bronze and bright gold relief ornaments and floral bouquets on both sides in fine polychrome overglaze painting, one snake restored, the other vase with a hairline colour mark over a bouquet, otherwise good condition for age, h 38 and 39 cm. Artist information: actually Hermine Herzing, called: "Blumenminni", German painter, etcher, porcelain painter and illustrator (1883 Frankfurt am Main to 1968 Karl-Marx-Stadt), first taught painting and lithography by her father, studied at the Hanau Academy, initially worked as a draughtswoman for embroidery and needlework, 1910-34 in Dresden, here a pupil of Georg Hermann Gelbke and Willy Kriegel, from 1934 active in Chemnitz (Karl-Marx-Stadt), source: Vollmer and Wikipedia.

"Besuch des Liebhabers" after Hermann Werner young craftsman in a summer landscape, courting two young girls in front of the house, glazed painting, the motif created in 1861 by Hermann Werner (1816 Samswegen to 1905 Düsseldorf) was very popular and was widely used as an oil print and was repeated, Boetticher comments: "The motifs for his small pictures, mostly taken from German folk and family life, met with a friendly response thanks to their cosy treatment. ...", oil on canvas, c. 1890, unsigned, on the reverse envelope with condition photo before restoration, minor craquelure, probably relined, closed defect in the canvas and restored, framed in a beautiful gilt stucco frame, rebate dimensions approx. 69 x 55.5 cm.
