Rudolf Schuster, attr, Erzgebirgische Landschaft wide valley between gently rising hills, with scattered houses and farmsteads as well as a few farmers on their way home, landscape depiction laid out with a confident stroke, graphite on paper, around 1880, on the reverse collector's stamp "Stähnz Leipzig", and inscription in pencil "Zeichnung von meinem Onkel Rudolf Schuster, Markneukirchen Heinr. Röth", centre fold line (probably from sketchbook) and slightly stained, mounted under passepartout, image dimensions approx. 14.5 x 22 cm, sheet dimensions approx. 19.8 x 32 cm. Artist information: actually Rudolf Heinrich Schuster, German painter and illustrator. Painter and illustrator (1848 Markneukirchen in the Vogtland until 1902 Markneukirchen), childhood and school attendance in Plauen, studied at the Dresden academy from 1863, 1867-73 one of Ludwig Richter's most talented studio students, subsequently stayed in Munich and influenced by Eduard Schleich and Adolf Heinrich Lier, undertook numerous study trips to Bohemia, Switzerland, Tyrol, Italy, Austria, the Ore Mountains and the Eifel, 1875-76 active in Düsseldorf, temporarily in Stuttgart, 1882-85 in the Giant Mountains, 1886-88 in Berlin, 1891-94 in Dresden Teplitz, 1894-96 in Weimar, 1898-1900 in Merano and from 1900 in Markneukirchen due to illness, source: Thieme-Becker and Frank Weiß "Painting in the Vogtland".
