Robert Kuven (Strasbourg 1901 - 1983 Strasbourg), 'Bauernmädchen aus dem Elsass', c. 1935, oil on canvas, signed on the left half-inch, 81 x 65 cm (French stretcher size F 25), lively portrait in impressionist manner, in wide old silver frame, overall size: 96 x 79 cm. Limit 180,- >> German-French painter, worked as an architect until 1926, then studied painting in Cologne and 1927-30 at the Munich Academy, returned to Strasbourg in 1932 and worked there at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs until 1939, the Square Robert Kuven in Strasbourg was named after him.

Jubilé des 50 ans d'activité de Ferdinand Schneegans [Jubilee of Ferdinand Schneegans' 50 years of practice] on a double vellum sheet entirely illuminated by hand, letters highlighted in gold (signed G. Hacker) and set in a green morocco in folio portfolio, smooth spine, wide gilded decoration framing the boards, wide gilded inner lace (binding by Baczynski). Signatures of members of the Strasbourg court at the bottom of the page. The Schneegans family belonged to the Strasbourg bourgeoisie. Several of its members had political or military careers, or distinguished themselves in intellectual circles and learned societies. Ferdinand Schneegans (1820 - 1901) studied at the Strasbourg Faculty of Law. A lawyer by profession, he embarked on a political career after 1870. A supporter of the Empire, he served as General Councillor of Strasbourg between 1873 and 1886. He played a political role after the annexation of Alsace in 1870. He was elected to the cantonal elections in 1873, having been the only candidate to take the oath of loyalty to the German Empire. He was also elected when the Landesausschuss (Delegation) of the Pays d'Empire was created in 1874. He did not stand for re-election in 1886, and also resigned his seat on the Landesausschuss. The government appointed him State Councillor for Alsace-Lorraine in 1891.
