Johann Emil Hünten Emil Hünten (Paris 1827 - 1902 Düsseldorf), 'Soldat mit angelegtem Gewehr von hinten', 1880, pencil drawing with opaque white heightening on greenish gray wove paper, dated lower right "8.6.80" and inscribed lower left "Plettenberg, 4. C(ompagn)ie", inscribed lower center by another hand "Nachlass Prof. E. Hünten", 33 x 25 cm, a further drawing of the same soldier, also dated 8.6.1880, was auctioned on 27.02.2010 at the auction house Engel, Koblenz (lot 518), stronger light-stained and dusty, mounted in a passe-partout, overall size: 43 x 32 cm, no slip Provenance: Werner Collection, Neunkirchen. Limit 72,- >> battle painter, attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris as pupil of H. Flandrin a. H. Vernet, went to Antwerp in 1849, from there to Düsseldorf in 1851, 1854/55 he worked there under W. Camphausen, especially horse studies, first preferred Frederician scenes, took part as soldier in the campaigns of the 1860s-70s, litt.
