Pavel Feinstein, Still Life with Fish and Orange An arrangement with fish, wine bottle and orange on a table with a folded tablecloth, the contours of the fish, together with the folds of the tablecloth, create an attractive dynamic that contrasts with the static bottle, the orange provides a colour accent in the otherwise muted colour scheme and is a motivic reference to Paul Cézanne, who is influential in Feinstein's oeuvre, rare early work by the artist, still life painting developed into the core of Feinstein's oeuvre, as evidenced by this work, which was applied to the canvas in a brisk, impasto manner without preliminary drawing and yet is compositionally sophisticated, signed in Cyrillic lower right and dated "[19]83", minor retouches, we would like to thank the artist for the written confirmation of the authenticity of the work, mounted in a discreet wooden moulding, folded dimensions approx. 80 x 60 cm. Artist info: German-Russian painter. Painter (1960 Moscow), grew up in Tajikistan, 1978 to 1979 attended the art school in Dushanbe, 1980 the family emigrated to Germany, 1980 to 1985 studied painting at the Berlin University of the Arts, master student of Gerhart Bergmann, since then freelance artist in Berlin, Stylistically influenced by Russian realism and Cézanne, his focus is on melancholic still lifes, portraits and figure paintings based on biblical stories from the Tanakh, 2002/3 extensive exhibition at the Jewish Museum Berlin with around 70 paintings, source: Jewish Museum website and website of the Friedmann-Hahn and Klaus Kiefer galleries.
