A LACQUER JINGASA (WAR HAT) WITH THE KEN-MITSUBISHI MON A LACQUER JINGASA (WAR HAT) WITH THE KEN-MITSUBISHI MON Japan, Edo period (1615-1868) Of circular form with a pointed top and a square brim, the black-lacquered top decorated with a ken-mitsubishi mon (triple sword crest) surrounded by conjoined antlers, the tip with a metal fitting with leaves and floral petals enclosing a central aperture. The underside lacquered in vibrant red. DIAMETER 42.2 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear, small losses to the lacquer along the rim, minor cracks to the lacquer, and traces of use to the underside.
