Joseph-Hippolyte LEQUEUTRE (1793-1877) Marie-Caroline de Bourbon Siciles, Duchess of Berry (1798-1870) Henri d'Artois, Count of Chambord (1820-1883) Louise d'Artois, Duchess Consort of Parma and Piacenza (1819-1864) Rare and important set of 3 oval miniature portraits painted on ivory, signed "Lequeutre" (cracked and missing). Circa 1840. In their original gilt bronze frames signed "Alph. Giroux à Paris", each surmounted by a coat of arms supported by cherubs. 12 x9.5 cm (when viewed). Frames: 26 x 18 cm Historical background: This exceptional series of three miniatures in impressive gilt bronze frames by Alphonse Giroux is part of a larger set of five portraits painted by Lequeutre. They depict the French royal family shortly before their exile to Frohsdorf Castle in Austria. The last two portraits in the set are of the Duc d'Angoulême and his wife, née Madame Royale, currently still in the possession of the de Bourbon family. Pair of small sorbets and their saucers in finely carved ivory. The saucers are carved with gadroons on the reverse. The sorbets are decorated at the base with laurel leaves. They are engraved on the body with the arms of Louis d'Artois, Duchess of Parma and Piacenza (1819-1864). Probably made in Dieppe in the mid-19th century. H. 6 cm Saucers: D. 9 cm
