O Baule crest mask, Ivory Coast Heavy wood H. 29 cm Provenance : - Bottet Collection - Sale Rieunier et associés, Paris, July 1, 2009, lot 54 - Private collection This heavy wood mask with four grooved shells probably comes from the Bouaké region. It features slit eyes, a rather squat nose and a rectangular mouth whitened with kaolin. Numerous scarifications adorn the forehead, eyebrows, cheeks and corner of the mouth. There is a patina of use, including on the back of the mask. This lot is a temporary import.
