Karel Breydel gen. "Le Chevalier" (or "Cavalier") (1678 Antwerp - 1733 ibid.) attr; Battle of the Horsemen Executed in a finely glazed style, this depiction is typical of Breydel's motifs and style. The vividly rendered movement of the horses and the active riders, some of whom are dressed in bright red, are noteworthy, dramatically depicting the raging battle. Breydel received the nickname "Le Chevalier" from his main subject, the depiction of battles. Trained by Pieter Rijsbraeck and Peter Ykens, the painter was active in Antwerp and Amsterdam as well as in Germany. Oil/oak panel. 40 cm x 49.5 cm. Frame. Attributed to Karel Breydel called "Le Chevalier" (1678 - 1733). Oil on oak panel.
