OPERA - BONHEUR Stella (1855 - 1901) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “Roma 17 Gennajo” by the French mezzo-soprano. She made her debut at the age of 18 at the Regio Theatre in Turin in the role of Preziosilla in 'Forza del destino'. She walked the stages of major Italian opera houses such as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro Apollo in Rome and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Famous for his interpretation of Carmen at the Teatro dal Verme in Milan and at the Teatro Regio in Parma, he left the stage in 1885. She married the surgeon Vincenzo Montenovesi. Addressed to the impresario Lampugnani: “…il Sig. [Carlo] d’Ormeville le avrà forse detto qualche cosa della triste odissea della mia malattia. (…) Ora sto benissimo, grazie al cielo ed’ ai medicamenti o piuttosto all’elettricità; una brutta cosa, che fà urlare in tutte le chiavi, dal soprano acuto al basso profondo, ma che opera veri miracoli e ben presto tornerò ad essere sulle scene…”. 4 pp. In-8. - This item is under temporary import. Giugno 1851”, by the celebrated Italian composer, addressed to Paolo Demalde Geometra in Busseto. A beautiful letter revealing the character of the celebrated musician. He is furious because a few nights ago “alcuni ladri scalarono una finestra alta 10 braccia” of his country house “…e penetrati nel mio appartamente, forzato uno scrittojo, hanno involato diversi nap. d'oro, ed alcuni pacchetti di L.aust.(riache)…” This is an episode that he cannot tolerate -especially having had his pockets picked! - And so, determined to defend himself, he asks "se mi sarebbe possibile d'ottenere un permesso d'armi di difesa”. Di difesa, ma non di caccia…lo vorrei un fucile, o due, ed un pajo di pistole…”. 1 p. In-8.
