Breccia's expressionist reinterpretation of Orwell's masterpiece is as relevant as ever, with this idea manifested in the original book of a fierce critique of the Stalinist grip on power. Breccia explodes in these disruptive plates with a sign that draws on the lessons of the great German expressionism, Grosz, Bechmann, the masters of engraving and woodcut, as well as explicit references to Simplicissimus, an extraordinary satirical and humorous magazine founded in 1896 .
