Work enriched by Hokusai's monochrome illustrations of episodes from the story of the life of the Buddha by Yamada Isai (1788-1846) 6 volumes, 4to, (250 x 178mm). Several engraved double-page illustrations in the text, characters likewise engraved, all on rice paper (occasional small wormholes). Publisher's orange wrappers, with printed labels to upper covers (some wear). (1)

One of two collections engraved by Hokusai of 'Toshisen ehon' Japanese translations of Tang-era Chinese poems, printed in 7 collections of five volumes each. The illustrations represent the best example of the master's 'Chinese style'. 5 volumes, 8vo, (228 x 150mm).
