Each volume contains, on Balzac and around Balzac, on his work and the context in which it was produced, research articles of diverse inspiration: general, biographical, genetic, historical, stylistic, bibliographical studies... It follows on from Études balzaciennes (1951-1960). The 33 volumes from 1960 to 1992 were bound in imitation of the Wagner and Spachmann bindings for the Balzac library. The remaining 31 volumes, from 1993 to 2022 (with 2 volumes for 1999) are as issued, bound in paperback.
