PIERRE D'AVESN (France, 1901 - 1990/91). Art Deco plate, ca. 1930. Molded and satin-finished glass. Signed and localized. Measurements: 6 x 25 x 25 cm. Pierre D'Avesn, whose real name was Pierre Gire, studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, and with only fourteen years he entered to work in the firm of René Lalique, where he learned the arts of glass with this great master. He worked with Lalique for twelve years, and for him he designed some of the most famous pieces of the firm, such as the "Serpent" and "Tourbillons" vases. In 1927 he began working for Daum, designing and supervising the production of its Luneville factory, specializing in Art Deco glass for export, mainly to the United States. However, the factory closed in 1932 due to the Depression, and between 1937 and 1940 D'Avesn worked for Verlys. Although it is not known for certain, it is possible that after World War II he continued to work for the art glass industry, probably in Choisy-Le-Roi/Sèvres.

Important vase en cristal overlay bleu de forme balustre, il repose sur une base carrée à gradin soutenant une boule facettée d'où s'élance la gobelet, ce dernier présente sur la panse de large côtes centrées d'un dard et surmontées d'un bandeau de pointes de diamants, le col polylobé est souligné d'une frise d'oves.
