Jules Félix COUTAN (1848-1939) Armed Peace Allegory of Peace in the form of a winged female figure, standing on a cornucopia and holding an unsheathed sword. Illustration of the Roman adage "Si vis pacem, para bellum". Bronze with brown patina, signed on the terrace, inscriptions: "UNION", "TRAVAIL", "PAIX", and stamped "THIEBAUT FRERES / FONDEURS / PARIS". Base in griotte red marble adorned with a frieze of bronze pearls. H. 68.5 - W. 40 : - D. 18 cm Weight : 15,80 kg (Marble chips). Offered as a professional gift, commemorative plaque on the front, dated July 31, 1896. Original bronze model created in 1887 from a design by architect Paul SEDILLE (1836-1900), and still adorning a column in Parc Montsouris, Paris.
