Hugo SCHEIBER (1873-1950) was a Hungarian modernist painter of the first half of the 20th century. Described in the memoirs of composer Paul Arma as "almost self-taught, almost illiterate, [...] a kind of primitive genius, a force of nature [...], an instinctive virtuoso", he practiced in a post-impressionist style before joining the Expressionist and Futurist movements in the 1910s-1920s. The work presented here belongs to this first period.
