A WOOD AND NEGORO LACQUER NETSUKE OF A MOTHER AND CHILD TAKING A BATH A WOOD AND NEGORO LACQUER NETSUKE OF A MOTHER AND CHILD TAKING A BATH Unsigned Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved with a mother and her infant taking a bath in a shallow wash tub. The mischievous young boy looks up to his mother with a water bucket filled to the brim, likely evaluating the consequences of pouring the contents of the bucket on his mother. The mother, unaware, merrily scrubbing her face with a washcloth, her finely incised hair is tied loosely to the back, her naked body partially submerged in the water. The tub is lacquered in the negoro-style. The underside with a large himotoshi and a second aperture through the top. The wood finely polished and with a fine patina. HEIGHT 3.8 cm Condition: Good condition with minor wear and expected rubbing to the lacquer.
